In his own provocative, controversial and inimitable style, Kennedy turns his attention to the convention of verse again for the first time in over three decades. Regarding no subject as âinviolable,â he offers up cogitations of another kind as he thoughtfully explores and expounds on the universal themes of life and love, God and religion and âbeing alive,â with a particular emphasis on the notion of âsanityâ. Underpinning many of his meditations with what he calls Psychophysics, a new school of thought he has created that will be address in full upon the release of his philosophical treatise, Psychophysics: The Point Of Everything, his work also provides us with a new turn of phraseâ philosophy in motion. More often than not, he chooses to take the middle ground on certain subjects, preferring instead to make his audience âthinkâ as opposed to alienate or antagonize it. But this is not always the case, and where he takes a stand there can be no doubt where his sentiments lie. There is great depth in what he says; there is also wisdom, compassion, empathy and sensitivityâ all of which is stamped with his highly imaginative and unique perspective in the treatment of his themes. This is a rare collection that almost demands to be read and reread over and over again.
The Encuentro isnât just another novel. A fairy tale in novel formâ told as a farce, presented like a play, and executed like a movie, it is indeed ânovelâ in every way. It is very much as advertised: âA Childrenâs Story For Adultsâ â very mature adults; it is also Kennedy as his innovated bestâ âpulling out all the stops,â and turning the medium right on itâs head to make a point, which is his vehicular and artistically stylized expression of his treatise- Psychophysics: The Point Of Everything. So, while the subject matter is bawdy, the humor outrageous and the wit nonpareil, it is, to be sure, a deeply profound exposition of the nature and meaning of life at the end of the day.
Set in the mythical kingdom of Char Ming, presumably sometime in the Middle Agesâ Kennedy cares little about time, as we generally think of it; indeed, âtimeâ is part of his beautifully rendered thesisâ it is a raucous, ribald tale that reads like Shakespeare, thinks like Chaucer and bites like Swift; for Kennedy unabashedly focuses on humanityâs universal preoccupation on sex to lead us hilariously, often shockingly, down what we almost have to belief will be an even more outrageous and sidesplitting âclimaxâ that turns out to be anything but. Be prepared to be stunned; be prepared to be âtrulyâ enchanted, literally swept off your feet and transported, as the popular phrase, goes: "Where no man has gone before"- only Kennedy takes you BEYOND! Be prepared to finally see the âpointâ â the alpha and the omega, the end and the beginning of EVERYTHING!
This, what he calls (a) âfairy,â is, as he has stated, âprobably my best symphony yet,â and destined to be an instant classic. We couldnât agree more!...Where else will you find a novelâs author portraying himself in his own book as a âmovie directorâ? The Encuentro is an absolute must read.
