Ok I am going put this out to the Ningverse. Ok I am going put this out to the Ningverse. And see what comes to me. Last time I put something out it was to as for a place to be. That failed. O was told not to do so in some places. Many telling of good thoughts. Sending of well wishes and luck, but in this day and age those are words that have little worth within the social structure. And can hardly be spend for the items we need. So in Virginia I am, with items in Ohio and the trailer in Michigan.
I have been a Renaissance Fare/Medieval Artist/Crafter Vendertainer for over 20 years. In the fall of the 2008 season the truck used lost its engine. In a choice it was decided to abandon it and rent trucks to finish the fall schedule. This took to soon what we had quicker than we figured in resources. With over a month more to look forward to we thought we could sell enough to gain another truck. That roll of the cosmic dice failed. For the shows did not bring to us what they should of.
So now a year later. With out a being able to get a job or true place to be. I have lost most of my company. My Companion of ten years has returned to her family in Missouri with our three year old son. For there is no money to support or purchase a truck and return to the life we had.
So the offering of teaching and showing has been brought forth. A partnership of sorts. I can offer a full rig of Faire and events. Tent, Vardar, and items to sell. As well as the shows I am know to. That can be rebooked. Up to 66 show days I believe I can recoup with out difficultly. There are a little over 100 possible during a year in common shows and 20 to 30 of extended shows.
What I need is a person or persons that can front a 17 foot or up to a 28 foot box truck {U-Haul sells them}. A Canvas has to be had as well that is about 4,000 USD in cost and I have someplace to make it. Our trademark tent canvas was over used to its end and replacement hast to be done. Some supplies need to be had to replace what was used up or replace things that do not survive the storage of the trailer. The 4 tires for it need to be replaced to ensure safe to travel upon after sitting for so long. Then the fuel/gas. And fees for shows.
I spent most of the summer trying for a lone to do this and was shot down many times. For all wanted the data required in ‘their’ forms ‘their’ format and ‘their’ way. I still have most of this typed up some where.
The offer is that if one or many takes this up to do. For a three years period the first year I will be as a Booth/show manager and they the boss. For I will teach them how and what of things. The second year we can run two tents or booths if one wants to start to expand and do one own. By the third year you should be able to run and book you own shows as well. Or we can just continue with the partnership.
Many have good intentions and advice and can tell one of how and what and should do. This I have suffered through for a year. What I need now is one or some to state they will help in the way I need.
Simple Truck, canvas, supplies, fuel and fees. For the Learning of a trade to learn how to make things. To find a style of the old knowledge and ways once again and freedom of the old.
Many think I should give up. Others just tell me how and what I should do. And when I ask them if they will help they fade or run from the words they just said. But with jobs so scarce. And places that take 45 to 90 days to decide upon someone. Or the fact I have no documents proving the knowledge of things I can do. Socially I am losing faster than I want. So to the populace I place this. And wait of words of hope and willingness to do this. And will see just if the placing this into the cosmic and universe works out. Or if I am truly lost and will never regain what I had once. My ways, my company, the Companion I love and our son.
Up to you now, I wait for the good of things to come. If you look to my profile you will find the Hearth site the last holding of what I have. Perhaps you or more then one will come and ensure that not all is lost. Some may tell me this is spamm. Some may consider it advertising. I am making a plea for help. Perhaps they will relies that and let it be and the words speak for me.

While traveling through Europe, it wasn’t uncommon for Blake and I to run into a group of gypsies sitting in a square or at a festival, or more likely, in front of a tourist attraction selling bracelets made of leaves. These people are usually dressed in eclectic garb, and move from place to place with nowhere to really call home.
I can recall a specific time that Blake and I were traveling in Granada, Spain. It was our first time in Granada, and we were reading about all there was to see and do. As we were reading our travel guide, we came to a small box of text that discussed the gypsy population in Granada. Strangely enough, the book explained that tourists should never take photos of the gypsies because it is against their religion. In addition, the tiny article discussed some gypsy beliefs in hexing and curses. Blake and I made light of the article because we couldn’t fathom such a silly thing being written about in a popular travel guide.
It wasn’t long before the gypsy story dissipated from our minds. We had too many other things to think about, like which café to have some coffee at, or when we were going to eat some gelato.
We wanted to spend one of our days in Granada at the famous Alhambra. The Alhambra is situated at the top of a hill and overlooks the city. As Blake and I got closer to the Alhambra, the number of gypsies got to be more and more. Right before the entrance, under a small canopy of trees, a group of female gypsies were trying to cell homemade leaf bracelets. It appeared as if they were speaking a language different than Spanish or English.
As I was walking toward the entrance, an old woman grabbed my wrist and tried to put a bracelet on me. I told her that I didn’t want one, and she tried to put it on me anyway. She was holding my wrist, and she was more or less insisting that I have this bracelet that she made. Unbeknownst to me, Blake whipped out his camera and pretended to take a picture, just so she would leave us alone. She let go of my hand at once and cowered away. Blake and I kind of giggled that this trick actually worked.
The rest of the day was fantastic. We entered the Alhambra and had a wonderful time. There were so many little pools of water, gardens, and views to take in. By the end of the day, we were exhausted. I think I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
That night, however, I woke up at about 3am. I turned over to face Blake and when I cracked my eyelids, I noticed that his face wasn’t his own. I was staring straight at Blake’s face and I saw the face of an old woman shrouded in blue light. I vividly remember blinking my eyes hard as if the image could be wiped away like a tear. When it didn’t, I quickly turned over and tried to put myself asleep, and it worked. I fell into another deep sleep and didn’t wake up until morning.
It didn’t occur to me to say anything about the dream until late in the afternoon the next day. Blake actually initiated the conversation by saying, “You wouldn’t believe what I saw when I looked at your face last night…”
When we realized that we both had the same dream, we looked back at our guide book to read the rest of the gypsy excerpt. It appears that we forgot to read the part about their belief in spells and hexes.

Taking Group to Canada If I were going to take a church group to Canada, would I need to look into some sort of International health insurance or Short term health insurance? I am not sure if everyone in our group has health insurance. I would not want to be out of the country with medical expenses that may fall back on our organization.
Any tips or advice?
Leaving Mt Ranier today headin to Idaho and the Snake river for some boon dockin on our public lands.
We DO own them, the public lands that is, in spite of what the government and states claim, so we camp on our "own" land for free.
Mt Ranier is 14,410 feet high in the great state of Washington. Climbed it once and "almost" made it to the top until that darn blizzard moved in and darn near snuffed us all out.

Big cities are a great place for the traveller to stop over for trading, viewing, learning, and meeting new and different people. As for one city that a modern vagabond should never pass by, that would be New York City. The Big Apple is full of resources and knowledge; in fact it contains everything a traveller could possibly find in a city. New York City's worldly authority of being a hub city for many facets, like the financial world, the media center, the real estate location, and the arts & entertainment circa, will provide what ever thing for anyone seeking resources. For a vagabond thirsting for any of these endeavours will find New York City a place to be. The best way to venture about into the city of New York is by foot. Your best walking shoes and a good packsack will be your primary and most important tools needed for hiking the streetsof New York. For the more confident and skilled vagabond, a wagon such as a recreational vehicle can be driven around in the city, but be prepared to pay hefty parking and security fees and to be on guard for over-enthusiastic driving. Driving into NY City is not highly recommended, an RV traveller is best to leave the wheeled abode out of the city limits and hike their way in. NY City has a terrific public transportation system in which as much as 50% of NY natives utilise on a daily basis. Depending on what you are seeking in NY City, the area you will focus your visit on can determine the price you will incur if you are to stay over for a few nights. You will need a few hundreds of dollars plus per night for a decent room. However, the more creative vagabond always finds a way to lessen their expenses, all depending on the partiality entailed by the individual. As for eating and public transportation, these costs can be very reasonable if required. For less than a good pair of shoelaces, one meal or transport pass can be acquired anytime in NY City. As for touring and visiting treasured sites in this city, there is no price that can be put on the abundance of free places of relevance and attraction that can be seen.
Let us start off with a central position to spend the night in when visiting NY City. There are many hotels and bed & breakfasts available at various prices. One can get resourceful and try to stay in the city for minimal cost or even at no cost in the streets; however there is risk involved when considering the health and safety of oneself when participation in such endeavours in any city. The detail of these risks does not really have to be outlined since they are obvious to any well travelled vagabond. However for a few hundred dollars and change per night, a nice accommodation can be readily found in this city. For instance, there is quaint hotel on 51st Street which is close to many outstanding amenities. The Washington Jefferson Hotel (WJHotel) is found midtown in Manhattan a walk away from the exciting Times Square, Central Park, Broadway Theatres, plenty of Eateries, and countless other vistas. From this location New York'spublic transportation system (MTA) will get you anywhere in the city. The rooms provide large, clean, and comfortable beds with very distinguished white cotton linens with goose down comforters. There is access to complimentary wireless Internet, I-pod docking stations, in-room safe, flat screen HDTV, and the service for the price is on hand. The washrooms are up to date with tiled showers and modern chrome fixtures, hairdryer, and Frette towels
From the WJ Hotel, a few blocks down in the borough of Manhattan, one can spend a day and night wandering around Times Square. This New York City square is located at Broadway and 7th Avenue and stretches from West 42nd and West 47th Streets. It is a major New York City intersection which was named after the Times Building, the once office building of The New York Times; today that building is called One Time Square. Once in Times Square, at the Cross Roads of the World, the proposals, the foods, the entertainment, and excitement will charge any traveller with pure urban energy. It is the liveliest square in New York City with neon super signs, Broadway, and everything required for an open minded vagabond. This crossroad will bring forward most of the biggest and brightest store signs that can be found in New York, the business community spare no expense showing off their goods and attract many tourist in this area. It is a place for entertainers from every corner of the world to come into view and flaunt their flair. On every New Year's Eve, over one million people from all over the continent and the world will gather here to welcome every New Year and say farewell to the old one.
Sitting in the midst of Times Square, you will be approached by 'bright sparks' who are offering tickets to entertainment shows to be presented during night time. At these showings, the magic of laughter can be bought at the price of agood meal and a few drinks, a fair price to pay for healthy laughter. The Times Square Arts Center will provide a night full of 'sh*ts and giggles' to clean out any bad curses you might have picked up along your travels. It is a showcase of fine comedians who perform every night in the "Times Square Comedy" show.
The biggest of the world's merchants will cater to the most wonderful of wanderers passing by their shops with the most fantastic technological feats available for the dearest of prices. These merchants will dazzle with their humongous flashing signs, breath taking smells, and sounds of desire that can draw any passerby to their unbeatable products of charm. Electronics, Toys, Fashion, provider of services, and commodities are all available for the barterers' dreamplace.
There is also never a shortage of food in Times Square, there are plenty of goods and drinks available, as of anywhere you go in New York City, there is always a guarantee to find a pizza slice, a pretzel, or a great sandwiched...preferably pastrami on rye bread. Combined with a drink, and one of the mentioned food groups always available in NY City, a satisfying and yet filling meal can charge any traveller for at the least another 10 to 40 miles of trekking.
There is no getting around Broadway when wandering around the midtown area of Times Square. On Broadway Avenue, the exclusive shows full of talent, entertainment, and storytelling which attract millions of spectators at all given times.
"Broadway, as the name implies, is a wide avenue in New York City, which runs the full length of Manhattan and continues into the Bronx. It is the oldest north-south main thorough fare in the city, dating to the first New Amsterdam settlement. The name Broadway is the English literal translation of the Dutch name, Breede weg. A stretch of Broadway is famous as the pinnacle of the American theatre industry." From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia
If you happen to have a chance to attend any show found in NY City, give yourself the opportunity to at the least see one before time passes you by. Theatre is a magnificent remedy for a weary traveller providing inspiration and new life to any soul.
Of course when in the Midtown area, the ever famous buildings and skyscrapers will have to be visited. These include the Rockefeller Center, the Chrysler Building, and the renowned Empire State Building. While wandering around these famous skyscrapers, make sure to view the numerous museums, restaurants, and theatres scattered within their neighbourhood. The architectural icons claiming these areas are a feast for the eyes and their rooftops provide for great viewing of New York City's sceneries.
To catch most of New York City's spirit, the modern vagabond will have to trek down to heart of this city, this trek can be walked (depending on the heartiness of the traveller) or for a simpler and faster method, take the subway. The ladder of the two is the most recommended, the subway system in New York City is timely practical, there is always guidance available, and getting lost is almost impossible. Once Downtown NewYork has been reached, there will be plenty of hiking to do and the prominent sites are spread outenough to fill out the heartiest of trekkers.
Downtown you will be able to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island while visiting Battery Park, walk down the streets and visit the numerous and famous museums and iconic places, walk through the rich financial section of Wall Street, pay some respect to the memories of the World Trade Center Site, and head towards the South Street Seaport for a view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
When attending one of the parks, such as Battery Park, there are plenty of room to sitdown and rest while enjoying spectacular views and activities of the ever popular Hudson Bay. If the timing is right youmight be able to catch a sunrise or sunset off one of the most important waterways our world has ever produced for mankind. Here you can imagine the eras where people from multicultural backgrounds met for first time. The feeling and flavours of Downtown New York City is a reminder of the birth of our great continent and the governance who originated the Americas while amalgamating with its natural inhabitants.
When time has come and a rest is in order, there is no better place than Central Park to put up your feet. This wonderful urban park, covering 843 acres of land in the middle of New York City, was first established in 1853 by New Yorkers who wanted a family oriented location to just hang out in. It stretches from 59th to 110th Street in a rectangular shape coveted by Mother Nature's finest work. Since then it has grown into a hub that is visited by over 20 million people each year. Central Park provides peace for the fast paced lifestyles of New Yorkers who will spend the day there by one of its lakes, a grassy knoll, and establish a quiet forest setting sentiment. It not only provides natural scenery, but Central Park also has ice rinks, tennis courts, baseball fields, playgrounds, and theatres.
New York City's Central Park allows for a regular getaway for countless outdoor enthusiasts; the park is constantly bustling with joggers, cyclist, and roller bladders that make the most of the park trails for a healthier lifestyle. In the more secluded and peaceful areas, Central Park will sanction photographers, entertainers, artist, writers, and folks just taking a break from the urban lifestyle outside of its walls. Not only is Central Park a wonderful sanction for people, there is a presence of wildlife making the park their homes, and tens of thousands of trees, shrubs, and flowers...this oasis within a city is a MUST see when in New York City.
All in all New York City definitely never sleeps...it's a great city to stop by and pick up a few necessities...and even eat a chicken sandwich for $5!

Tips On Buying A Used Vagabond Wagon 2009-08-21T23:09:00Z
Whether you are going camping, touring, or even vagabonding, a camp trailer will provide a traveller with all the amenities found in the comfort of today’s modern homes. There are various types of homes on wheels, or mobile homes, such as motor homes, truck campers, fifth wheel trailers, and travel trailers. The type of recreational vehicle (RV) you are going to buy for your family or for yourself, depends on a few factors. These factors are primarily, the cost, your current vehicles towing capacity, and the amount of living and sleeping area you are going to need. The fact is an RV bought new from a dealership will generally depreciate faster in the first few years from its purchase date, after a few years the RV’s value can hold its own if it is well maintained. For this reason, modern vagabonds will commonly buy their mobile homes used.If you can learn to recognize what to look for when you are shopping for a used camper trailer, then you just might be able to find yourself a great deal and save a few dollars.
While you are shopping for your used camp trailer, the different types of RVs you will encounter are, the class A motor homes, the class B motor homes, the class C motor homes, travel trailers, fifth wheel trailers, folding camp trailers, sport utility recreational vehicles, and the good old truck camper. The type you are going to focus on will depend on your budget, the vehicle you are currently driving, and the space required.Unless you are looking at the class A, B, and C motor homes you will need a towing vehicle. The class A motor home is the most expensive and the biggest recreational vehicle, such as a bus converted into a living quarters, the class B motor home is smaller and is built on a van chassis, and the class C motor home is a van with a cut away chassis as the camper. If you own a car, then you can shop around for the travel trailers and folding camp trailers. These types are generally smaller and lighter and enable the use of a car for towing. For the pickup truck owners and depending on the truck’s load and tow capacity, you can then start looking at the larger camp trailers. With a pickup truck, you can still buy a lighter, smaller trailers if you wish, that depends on your comfort level, this way you will have more room in your truck box to carry supplies around. The truck camper is unique in its own way since it fits inside a pickup truck’s box. These vary in size and weight depending on your truck’s load capacity and you can also tow a trailer or boat with the truck camper style.Lately, RV manufacturers have been building the sport utility camp trailers.Like the pickup truck camper, the sport utility camper is unique since it has its own garage to store your toys in.The sport utility trailer comes in various sizes and is also built as class A, B,and C.If you decide to purchase a camp trailer, you are going to have to do your homework and look up your car or truck’s towing capacity. There are two numbers you will have to know about your towing vehicle and that is, the gross trailer weight (GTW) and the tongue weight (TW) capacities. The GTW is the maximum weight your vehicle is designed to pull and the TW is the weight your hitch ball can support. These two specifications can be found in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. This is very important to know since the insurance company you are dealing with might reject any accident claims due to not complying with these specifications while hauling your camp trailer.
Once you have decidedon the type of used RV you will be shopping for, start reading through the classified ads in your local newspapers, magazines, and on the Internet. You can also visit local RV dealerships since most of them will have used RVs on their lots. When you are ready to go look at your future used RV, bring a check list of things to look for. When you are looking over your prospective RV, spend a little time doing it, don’t buy on impulse, this can be a costly mistake. You can even call the seller ahead of time and have them prepare the RV for inspection, prompt them to fill the water storage tanks, start up the refrigerator and freezer, have the propane tanks and power hooked up, and basically have it ready as if the camper was going to be used immediately. If the seller agrees to your request, give them a few hours to do so, the refrigerator and freezer should be cold by the time you get there. If the seller refuses to prepare the camper for your viewing, then be suspicious of damages or broken down appliances in the camper.
Once you have arrived at the camper’s seller’s location, start your inspection.Have a thorough look at the underneath of the camper looking for rust spots, leaky holding tanks, and any damage due to bottoming out.Check the tires, their threads, and brake controller if applicable (knowledge on break controllers is not that important but good to know).Do a scan of the camper’s shell, look for dents, rusty spots, separations in the seams, and rusty or loose screws.Open up all the compartments and have a look inside for damage and especially dampness.Make sure the compartment doors shut tight and are not loose. If the camper is a folding type, inspect the canvas and screens; look for holes and patches, check the seams and surface for brittleness and rot.If the camper is a hardtop, have a look at the roof, look for markings where water might of collected, and inspect the joints and rubber seals.Depending on the weathering and age of the camper, these seals will start cracking and water may be able to seep into the camper. While looking over the roof, make sure that all the racks and vents are tight and secured. If there are any, find out where the battery or batteries, and propane cylinders are stored.Check that the batteries are well charged and holding their charge. If there are any hydraulic or electric motors make sure that they are properly running and are doing the work that they are designed to do, such as lifting the camper up and down for levelling.Check to make sure the propane tank(s) are not leaking, you will smell propane if the connectors on the tanks are not holding or are loose. The exterior lights on the camper are very important for safety and laws while driving on public roads, make sure that the turning and brake lights are functioning well. After thoroughly inspecting the exterior of the camper, you can then start with the interior.
Once you have entered the camper, check the entrance door to see if it securely closes and look for signs of leaking; do the same for all the windows.Check all the hinges, handles, and locks on all the windows and doors. In the kitchen, check all the appliances to assure that they are working properly, listen for strange noise or smells, and look them over for damage.Turn on the water facets to make sure the pump(s) is working and if there is a hot water heater you will know if it is working properly due to the temperature of the water. In the bathroom, if the camper has one, make sure everything in it is secured and has not become loose during the camper’s travel.Look for the ventilation fan and make sure it is working properly, this is important because the moisture from the bathroom should always be vented out.Have a look at the toilet, make sure that it can hold water and that it is flushing properly, it will smell during your travels if it malfunctioning.Depending on your taste and comfort zone, have a look over at the furniture and bedding to assure that they are in good condition. Finally and most importantly, check the floor and inside all storage compartments for moisture and mildew. The floor around the sinks, tub, shower, and toilet are more likely to have water damage due to spillage.Check that the floor around these areas is not soften or even rotten by water damage.
Once you have given your potential camper a complete inspection and you are satisfied with all of its working components, sit in it for as long as it takes for you to feel comfortable.Look at its layout and all the amenities it has to offer and let yourself relax until you feel satisfied that it is the right camper for you.If it’s not and you can’t feel it, don’t worry there are many more used campers available to you. However, a rule of thumb when making a purchase of such value is, go look at more than just one model of camper. You can have fun and learn more as you inspect the various models available to the potential vagabonds. When you find the right camper and it has met all of your standards, hook it up and hopefully we’ll see you on the road with a smile on your face!
The art of music, combining sound and lyrics, has been used by rogues, muses, and many drifters around the world to describe their adventures. For this reason, for most vagabonds, music plays an important role in their lives.Using sounds and stories that can travel through time, is instrumental for weary drifters, the music created can be used to uplift even the loneliest trip.

In order to sustain and maintain traveling accessories and equipment, the vagabond with a small or even non existing bank account, may sometimes find themselves stopping over to earn payment for services. The form and amount of payment may depend on the specific job, but as long as the vagabond can attain enough resources to continue trekking, any job will do.
Because of their non materialistic and efficient lifestyle, most vagabonds won’t usually need to find a source of income. But in times of hardship and when resources get scarce (like worn out shoes), money can always be obtained to provide for whatever a traveler may need.More elaborate vagabonds usually have higher traveling cost to maintain and provide fuel for RVs, trailers, wagons, campers, towing vehicles, and other expenses attached to motorised traveling. The vagabonds with larger wagons, typically travel in groups, some having family members sharing one RV, or a caravan of many RVs of other nomads, gypsies, wanderers, drifters, and tramps.

The modern vagabond lifestyle is made up of those born with the tendency to roam and camp rather than living in one location. There is a large segment of vagabonds who tend to travel by foot carrying their life in a back sack and there are some who participate in the RV lifestyle. Many of the foot bound vagabonds will hop in with the vagabonds who live in an RV, the ones who choose to have a motorized wagon type vehicle, and their houses are on wheels. The RV style of vagabonding is more for the collector type, vagabond families or groups, or those who prefer a more comfortable and safe slumber. Also, the RV vagabond always needs to find a source of income or trading to maintain and provide fuel for their wagon.
While many vagabonds are pensioners from their time served in the rat race (they are usually 50 years of age or older), other younger vagabonds are choosing RV travel as a way to see parts of the world while earning income using the gadget that the communication technology has to offer. An RV can have the internet, mobile phones and fax, and whatever gadget needed to get a job done. Vagabonds will usually not stop in camping sites for the reasons that, money is not needed, more choice of spots to park, for quiet and privacy, more self-sufficiency and to be nearer a specific location.
The vagabond’s RV typically has a good bed, a table and bench, and a kitchen. Vagabonds who travel in groups may have larger RVs which have bathrooms with shower, refrigerators, living areas, master bedrooms, and all. Very resourceful vagabonds can even have, satellite TV and Internet access, slide-out sections, and awnings, and either carry a small car inside it or towing it. A nice abode on wheels for any vagabonds can cost from less than $3,000 to $1,500,000 or more. However, most vagabonds, who are usually more mobile than a typical camper type, will have RVs that are more on the compact easier to “pick up and go” style.
One type of RV that a vagabond may favour, is the truck camper, a unit that is temporarily let into the bed or chassis of a pickup truck. This style has a few advantages over trailer types of RVs. For instance, there is the “pick up and go” factor, the traveler’s house is always ready to go, without a hitch, with the turn of a key, and the maneuverability cannot be matched. Where ever the towing vehicle goes, the house goes to, the same can be said about the Class ABC RV. These types are converted buses, vans, trucks into a RV, usually called motor homes. The big disadvantage is that, the vagabond’s house is also the vagabond’s horse, which is kind of a strange thought. With the truck camper the vagabond has a truck which can be utilized for other purposes and a house that can be temporally left behind if needed.
The truck camper RV requires a good pickup truck. Choosing a pickup truck for a camper will depend on the amount in weight the vagabond will need to carry. For the vagabond who chooses to travel alone, a smaller camper can be used with a ½ ton pickup truck. If there are more vagabonds using the same camper, then a bigger truck, like a ¾ ton or even a 1 ton truck can be used. The bigger campers can be as long as 12’ and will usually accommodate 4 to 6 vagabonds.
The craftier vagabond will design and build their own RVs out of cars, vans, buses, or whatever they can find to fit their needs. This is probably the most economical for a vagabond to acquire an RV for traveling, but it requires some mechanical skills and traveling time can be significantly reduced during the building stage of the RV. “There is a stereotype of vagabonds, gypsies, drifters, campers and nomads alike who live in RVs full-time do so because they are poor and cannot afford a home. Little do they know that a vagabond is a vagabond because if he stayed in one spot to long he might end up becoming a bum?”
The worst place a vagabond can be...is stuck at a pit stop. There is no abode for vagabonds; there are only the world’s streams to wander around on. Following tracks, roads, and trails to unknown places that are not usually found on The Map. There are times when the vagabond needs to stops and catch up on current affairs, stock up on accessories, fill up the coin punch, and sometimes even search for a new path. These pit stops are important; they can be used for moments of refreshment, learning, and insight. However, if for some reason the vagabond is hindered from her travels, then there is cause for concern. There is nothing worst for a traveler than immobility.
I guess there are powers to be that cannot be controlled, for instance, disabling illnesses or broken down equipment. Most immobility problems can be resolved, however, the duration of the immobility can drive any vagabond to substance abuse, if this is to happen, then the vagabond is on the verge of becoming stationary. One can almost imagine that a vagabond can be slowly transformed into a bum. Having a nomadic tendency, not being able to mobilize because of being too drunk or high can destroy a vagabond. Or even worst, the vagabond might get wrapped up in a rat race...finding a steady job, one that requires her to show up at the same location, diligently, every day, and for 30 years with a carrot at the end.
The vagabond then would have to trade in her wagon on wheels for a house or condo. If the vagabond is good to his steady daily source of bread, the masters of her workplace would let her flee for a few weeks a year. When this happens, some vagabonds return to their steady lifestyle, and one can imagine that most vagabonds at heart never return...they just keep on trekking.
Stay tuned here, soon we will be vagabonding! The Modern Vagabond’s blogger, ‘The Gypsy Dad’, will be bringing news, events, places to see…places not to see, travel tips, things to do…not to do, places of resources, tricks, guides, videos, photos, journalism, and all that can be found in a pack sack!
To understand what a real vagabond is we must look at what is the opposite of being one.Let us define the opposite of a vagabond as followed. In today's modern world, most people become permanent citizens of a community providing service for corporations and governing authorities in trade of materials and homes. Some people just accept it, becoming stagnant, complacent, obedient, and they usually live to work for the corporations.Others become part of the entity they are serving and live their whole life devoted to their roles within that entity. They are a mostly competitive and tend to become amalgamated into the corporation they represent. They enjoy activities that promote money, competition, achievement, and common interests.Due to their spirited nature, in the extreme case, they tend to have unremorseful destructive and protective patterns. For instance, if a neighbour of such type has a bigger decorative rock in their front yard, the competitive characteristics of his peers next door will compel them to acquire an even bigger and nicer rock. This can even reach a point where it can damage individual identities.Whether these individual are of the stagnant or of the competitive nature, most of them eventually don’t have control of their own destination and even start living a lie.
The modern vagabond, for instance, are the people who eventually retire from their fixed career or even choose not to enter the working communities. They detach themselves from the ‘Rat Race’ and start living life at their own pace. Most are free spirited and are sometimes branded by the members of working class as free loaders, social menaces, beggars, and bums.As defined in books and dictionaries, a vagabond is a travelling person. Such people may be called drifters, tramps, rogues, gypsies, or hobos. A vagabond is characterised by almost continuous travelling, absent a fixed home, temporary dwelling, or permanent home and community. Vagabonds are not bums, as bums are not known for travelling, preferring to stay in one location.
There are many ways a vagabond can get around and travel.Backpacking, walking, and hitching rides are the most cost effective, but yet are less reliable ways.In today’s modern world, for the more accomplished vagabonds, there are options like automobiles, motorcycles, and even recreational vehicles. The ladder of these methods allows the wander to be able to carry more of their personal items without straining their backs, and getting to their destination in a quicker and safer way, not to mention that it also provides them with a mobile home.
Here is a motto all modern vagabonds can live by, "Put on your backpack, grab your walking stick, and join us on the excursion of our lives. No alarm clocks, no suit and tie, and especially no "Working for The Man".Just plain old road trips, and good old Mother Nature to fulfill our daily lives."
This is image of a Vagabond, was bummed off Flickr.com. The owner of the picture quoted...
"This is one of twenty cartoons drawn in a small notebook that I found among all the old stuff at my work. There is no identification at all to who drew the cartoons or where the book comes from. The notebook is in a style that indicates that it was made in the 1940-50’s. Whoever this was, he/she shows a talent for cartoons and could probably have made a career of it. I do hope you enjoy them as much as I have."
Hoping the owner doesn't mind vagabonds bumming this picture off them...it's so wonderful!
