This is me (on piano) in 1962 playing the music I wrote for the play by Jack Gelber, "The Connection" that ran for 19 straight months off-Broadway. Here Jackie McLean plays alto sax, Larry Richie - bass and Charles Moffett - drums.
When I first heard a bebop record while serving in Korea called "Shaw 'Nuff" by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, it changed my life forever. I have been in pursuit of that music ever since then.
Music:
The wind. the sun and Mother Nature's wonderful symphony.
Movies:
Favorite movie: "The Connection" of course.
Heroes/Idols:
All the great musicians who invented and perfected jazz music in America, especially Bird, Diz, Monk, Bud, Duke, Strayhorn, Tatum, Jamal, Oscar, Louie and the wonderful vocalists like Billy Eckstine, Ella, Sarah, Nat, etc. I have been blessed to have been associated with so many of them.
