Well, I stuck with it and decided to stop beating my head against the screen and start out with a layout that was already pretty much what I wanted, even though it was designed for use on myspace.  Yuwie accepted the codes just fine, and I was able to replace the picture with the one I wanted to use without too much trouble.

So there you have it...finally, an American Idol layout that includes a picture of Cara with the rest of the judges.  I haven't been able to find a layout like this with all 4 judges shown anywhere, so now one exists.  If you'd like to use it for your own profile too, you're welcomed to select it from my shared layouts.
