It's Poison!

Don’t mess with success!
That’s a popular saying isn’t it?

But as human nature would have it, we always think that we can make things better. It should be different when it comes to our walk with God, but…is it really?
He made a way for us, so that we could have a relationship with Him, but religion is always looking for a way to mess with success. Religion is a problem because it tries to add to what Jesus has already finished. Righteousness was fulfilled in Him, and He doesn’t need us to add anything to it.

Thousands of years ago, the prophet Elisha was at Gilgal, and there was a great famine. God provided a pot of stew for Elisha and the prophets with him. What did one of the prophets do? He decided to add some herbs and gourds to spice it up. The only problem was that they were poisonous, and the prophets cried out to Elisha that there was death in the pot! God provided for His people, but with man’s help it became inedible.

Following Jesus is a relationship. Following a list of do’s and do not’s will not satisfy spiritual hunger, because that is something only Jesus can do. A list can take control over us, and rules can turn our relationship with God into a religious checklist. In Jesus, God offers us what we need; anything else is just poison.

When was the last time that you were devestated?
When have you been exhausted, and overextended?
Did religious activities get you through?

Nothing can give us joy, peace, and power, outside of our faithful walks with Jesus. What we don’t need is to serve more, and love less. Don’t do all the right things and feel empty afterwards.

Where will you place your hope and trust?
Where will you get rest, joy, strength, and purpose?
The story of Elisha, and the other prophets, tells us to trust in God alone because He provides what we need, without our help.

Let's keep the poison out of the pot.
