| What In Tarnation Am I Doing Here? |

For starters, I have issues with most social networking sites. The vast majority of social networking sites are what I call Web 2.0 Internet Sharecropping Straw bosses who prey on their members for free content while giving nothing of real value in return. Fact is: until now I've never heard of a social networking site that shared their Billion dollar profits with those who actually paid their bills. It's time for Web 3.0 to begin.
That said, money isn't the only reason I'm here even if money is the reason I chose Yuwie over say Facebook or one of those other robber barons.
You see, I first came online in 2000 with the goal of promoting my first book, Carrot On A Stick but it didn't take long before trying to promote my books began to feel somewhat dirty. I finally decided that even if my books remain a financial flop for the rest of my life I would do what I could to promote the works of the many great unknowns.
Oh sure, I still promote my books from time to time but not anything like I used to do.
To do this I built several e-zines and blogs only to see all of them fail. But like the fool I am I keep trying. Oh sure, I still write my personal blog at BloggingPoet.com and my children's site, LaureatesKids.com but neither of those are any longer my first love.
So what is my first love?
That would now be Blogsboro.com where myself and after the Thanksgiving holiday, my partners, Tina and Budd, hope to highlight as many artists, musicians, poets, novelists, photographers, indy filmmakers and other creative types as we possibly can. Our dream is for Blogsboro.com to become so successful that those artists we link to will become successful as well-- kinda like the SlashDot of the arts. No, we'll not do it with just 3 writers but we've not yet enough money to add more. You see, I have no intention of becoming known as yet another Internet sharecropping straw boss. If we fail we fail but it won't be at the expense of our "members."
And finally, in coming full-circle that brings us to Club Blogsboro, an effort to make our jobs easier. We're hoping that lots of creative people will leave their links at Club Blogsboro so that we can more easily find them. And if they happen to be a little shy then perhaps a friend will leave a link for them. Yeah, we'd like to make a little money from our time with Yuwie but if Club Blogsboro can help us accomplish our goals of helping other creative people then that will be good enough. |
