In this lesson you will learn the gospel is to be spoken and also experienced. You will also learn seven things Jesus has given you to equip you to demonstrate the gospel.
I. The gospel is to be spoken and experienced – John 14:10-18.
A. Philip asked Jesus to show them the gospel and this was His response, – verse 10 – “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.”
B. Verse 11 – “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.” Both words and works are from the Father.
C. Verses 12-14 – The works that Jesus did we will do as we ask in His name that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
D. Verses 15-18 – “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” The commandments are to do the works of Jesus. He will give you another Helper, the Spirit of Truth (the Holy Spirit), to abide (dwell) with you always.
II. Seven things Jesus has given you to equip you to demonstrate the gospel:
A. His life – 1 John 5:11 – “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”
B. His love – Romans 5:5 – “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
C. His Spirit – 1 John 4:13 – “By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.”
D. His blood – 1 John 1:7 – “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
E. His Word – John 17:8 – “For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.”
F. His name – John 14:13 – “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
G. His authority – John 20:21 – “So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.’”
