An insight into the wierd and wonderful life of an English Engineer.
Where in the World?

Okay, so this is yet another one of my deep questions.

I have been very fortunate to have been able to see some of the most amazing places around the world. I have plenty of places on my yet to do list, but I am also looking for some inspiration on where to go next.

So my question is:

If you were able to visit one place in the world, where would it be and why? I will accept countries as long as you think about it and give a good enough reason! :-)

Having grown up in Ghana and Kenya, I really want to go back and visit both again, but the place to go out of all the towns and touristy spots would be Lamu. It's carless except for the mayor's car which only takes him from the dock to the main office. The city is amazing culturally with most streets being as wide as a person with buildings reaching up over you two or three stories high. The Leakey family had a compound there too. I didn't get to see that though.

I'm not telling where I'd like to go, but concretely where I've planned to go the next June: to Northern France to see some Old Castles on the river Loire and Normandie(the american landing during the second world war) .Art and History at the same time. Have you ever been there?

I've always wanted to go to Africa. Not sure which country though. These days there is so much turmoil in some of the countries. Pehaps Ghana. To be among the people, taste their foods, listen to the sing-songy lanuage, take in the fragrances. Some friends of mine took their honeymoon in Africa. Had a guide and went to several countries. Was not touristy at all. My kind of trip.

I went to University with a guy called Bisckie from Botswana it sounds like an interesting place. I can only imagine how green it is in the rain season.

Japan - hmmm interesting choice. I would not mind going there but I haven't heard of many places to visit.

I fancy getting off out into the wilderness again, this time round.

Actually I have two that I really want to go to before I go anywhere else. 1. Want to go to the north of Italy to see where my father was born, the school his grandfather built and all my italian relatives.
2. My sister has just come back from Egypt, this is where our mother was born and grew up. She says it is truly amazing and unlike anywhere she has ever been and she has been to a hell a lot of places. So they would have to be on the top of my list. Malta would be good too, have that in me as well!

Hard to pick only one!!! I'm really addicted to travels.
I would say Bhutan in Asia. Why? For the nature and the minding. They brought the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) as an attempt to define quality of life in more holistic and psychological terms than Gross National Product.

Bhutan - an interesting place.

They have a tourist tax which makes it extremely expensive to visit. That stops most people going and corrupting their way of life.

It's another place on my list.
