| What A Christian is About | This is what being a Christian is all about:
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, & all the angels with him,
then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be
gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a
shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep
at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to
those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father,
inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty & you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger & you welcomed me, I was naked
& you gave me clothing, I was sick & you took care of me, I was
in prison & you visited me. Then the righteous will answer him,
Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry & gave you food, or
thirsty & gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw
you a stranger & welcomed you, or naked & gave you clothing?
And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? And
the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one
of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.
~~Matt. 25: 31-40 (NRSV)
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have
love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic
powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have
all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am
nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body
so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or
arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not
irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices
in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.
Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as
for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the
complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I
spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child;
when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see
in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only
in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And
now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; & the greatest of
these is love.~~1 Cor 13 (NRSV)
My thoughts: None of us know everything. We disagree wildly over
theological matters. In the end, such things hardly matter if you do
not have love. The love is what it is all about.
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light, and
Where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
